THE teen, who died while giving birth at the Georgetown Public Hospital on Emancipation Day had undergone a cesarean section.
According to reports coming out of the Public Health Ministry, Esther Edwards of Laluni Creek on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, died during a Cesarean Section (C-Section). To date, the country has recorded seven maternal deaths for 2017.
A reliable Source told the Guyana Chronicle that the Laluni Creek teenager was admitted to the public hospital late Saturday night. At the time, she was 40 weeks pregnant. An emergency C-Section was performed on Edwards and while the baby girl was safely delivered, Edwards did not make it. She died at around 03:00h on Emancipation Day. The direct cause of her death remains unknown at the moment.
The Public Health Ministry has launched an investigation into the death.
