… depart for St Kitts tomorrow
DUE to the current rainy season, the two one-day practice games, part of the National Under-19 squad’s preparation ahead of Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Tournament, were called off by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB).
The games were scheduled for Tuesday and yesterday at the Everest Cricket Club ground, but according to the Guyana Cricket Board’s Territorial Development Officer Colin Stuart, playing conditions at the venue were not suitable for cricket.
However, despite the absence of turf practice, the squad utilised the Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence at the LBI Community Centre on the East Coast of Demerara, and, according to coach Julian Moore, the technical aspect of each player was one area he focused on.
“Ideally we would have liked some turf sessions, but the inclement weather is beyond our control,” Moore said.
He added, “Apart from utilising the LBI facility, we had two days of net sessions at Everest, along with additional training at the National Park, so “yes” the weather affected us somewhat, but we utilised the LBI facility to its fullest.”
The CWI Under-19 Regional Tournament is scheduled to be played in St Kitts July-August.
Guyana will depart for St Kitts tomorrow. The Regional Under-19 tournament will return to a full slate of matches, following a few years of truncated competition.
The region’s leading youth players will get a chance to mix it up in five rounds of three-day matches, as well as seven rounds of Super50 one-day matches that also will include a composite side from ICC Americas.
The National Under-19 squad: Ronaldo Ali Mohamed (captain), Raymond Perez, Kevin Sinclair, Javed Karim, Kevlon Anderson, Ramnarine Chatura, Adrian Sukhwa, Alex Algoo, Richie Looknauth, Kheshram Seyhodan, Ashmead Nedd, Karan Arjpaul, Sylus Tyndall, Joshua Jones, Gavin Boodwa, Mark Jeffers, Joel Fortune, Stephon Campbell, Julian Moore (coach), Andy Ramnarine (manager/assistant coach).
Meanwhile, Bhaskar Yadram and Joshua Persaud will be joining the team upon their return from the West Indies Under-19 tour to South Africa.
