A SECURITY guard is in police custody after losing his shotgun and ammunition Thursday evening at Gafoors Housing Scheme, Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara.

According to reports, the 44-year-old guard of Professional Guard Service and of West Coast Demerara was performing his duties in the housing scheme at an apartment building with the firearm at the western hut, where he worked alone.

He told investigators that after falling asleep; he was awoken by a disturbance in the evening and saw a man riding away from his hut with the firearm, but he did not give chase. There were two other guards, who worked 60 feet away, but who also did not raise an alarm.

The matter was reported to the police and searches were done, but the weapon was not recovered. There was no CCTV camera footage available.
