THE soon-to-be-operational National Anti-Narcotics Agency (NANA) is one of several agencies for which Cabinet has green-lighted various sums of money for the purchase of new vehicles.
Minister of State, Joseph Harmon, told the media during a post-Cabinet briefing on Friday, that Cabinet has noted the award of contracts to the tune of $39M for the purchase of several vehicles.
NANA, the Guyana Prison Service, and the Police Complaints Authority will benefit from the sum awarded.
Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan, has said in the past that NANA will be implemented as an umbrella agency under which all agencies in the fight against illicit drugs, including the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) , will operate.
Minister Harmon also announced the award of several contracts on Friday. These include:
$17M for the extension and rehabilitation of the regional administration building of Region Nine (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo);
$74M for the construction of a single-lane roundabout at Timehri;
$386M for the supply of poles and timber products for the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) for several housing and industrial areas across the country;
$4M for the procurement of agricultural equipment and office supplies for the Guyana Prison Service; and
$72M for the supply and installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras for 24 tower sites to be managed by the Data Centre of the Ministry of Public Telecommunications.
