Mocha man gets bail on larceny charge

A TAXI driver was placed on $150,000 bail when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Thursday charged with simple larceny.
Twenty -three-year-old Troy Griffith of Mocha, East Bank Demerara, denied the allegation that he stole a quantity of items from his relative’s barber shop. The case was presided over by Magistrate Sunil Scarce.

The charge stated that between June 21 and 22, 2017, he stole one television set worth $ 220,000; a cellphone and hair-cutting machines worth $ 230,000 and a quantity of alcohol beverages worth$ 15,000, property of Kurt Douglas. Police Prosecutor Preston John objected to bail being granted to the defendant, saying that Griffith also has three other pending matters. He also objected to bail on the nature of the matter and the fact that the defendant is facing a pending matter of robbery under arms. However, Griffith was granted bail and the matter was adjourned to July7.
