AN elderly man, identified as “Murselene” of First Street, Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara was on Sunday struck down on the public road at West Meten-Meer-Zorg as he was crossing it.

Eyewitnesses say the elderly man, who is believed to be in his 70s, came out of his yard and attempted to cross the road without looking at the traffic. As he made his way over the road, a motorcycle travelling east and bearing the number plate CJ 2191, struck him down.
Coincidentally, an ambulance was passing by and public-spirited citizens flagged it down and placed the injured man inside. Accompanied by one of his sons, he was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, but was later transferred to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
The rider of the motorcycle sustained minor injuries, while Murselene, who reportedly suffered internal injuries, was bleeding from his mouth. Reports indicate that the elderly man’s condition is stable.
