Fraser-Green, John, Hicks, McKay, Spencer register victories at National Championships

UNITED Kingdom- based Guyanese cyclist, Claire Fraser-Green, along with Briton John, David Hicks, Warren Mckay and Andrew Spencer, all won their respective categories when the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) staged its National Road Race Championships yesterday.
Fraser-Green for the fifth consecutive year won the ladies’ road ace title: a 53-mile event in two hours, 29 minutes 49 seconds (2:29.49) ahead of Shemika Teixera.
Fraser-Green also won the ladies’ individual time trial on Saturday last and this is also the fifth consecutive year that she has won both the individual time trial as well as the road race titles.

John for his part returned 2:58.40 in winning the Juniors’ 70 mile road race ahead of Nigel Dugid and Marcus Keilus, respectively.
In the juvenile category, David Hicks, the younger brother of national cyclist Andrew, won easily ahead of Jonathan Ramchuschit and Raj Seenarine, respectively.
Hicks’ time for the event was 2:29.48.
Warren McKay crossed the finish line at 2:58.40 to win the veterans’ under-45 years category ahead of Leer Nunes and Steve Ramschuit in that order, while Spencer returned 3:02.16 in winning the veterans over 45 years category. Second was Ian `Dumb Boy’ Jackson, while Burchelle Samaroo finished third.
One day earlier, (Saturday), Fraser-Green out-dueled the field to win the ladies’ individual time trial, while Raynauth `Obeahman’ Jeffrey was too good for the seniors in winning that category.
Curtis Dey was the winner of the junior category while Nunes won the veterans’ category.
