… Quarter-finals decided; Sparta Boss holds off elimination

FOLLOWING the conclusion of round-robin play in the inaugural Xtreme Cleaners/GT Beer Gold Rush Futsal Championship, Sparta Boss, Future Stars, Albouystown, Broad Street Bullies, Bent Street, Sophia, Tucville and Back Circle have all advanced to the quarter-finals.
Sparta Boss secured their quarterfinal berth when they outclassed Sophia 3-0 on Thursday, thanks to goals from Solomon Austin (4th), Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson (12th) and Dennis Edwards (14th minute).
Sophia had several clear chances on goal, but their shots were either well saved or hit the crossbar, as the star-studded ‘kings of futsal’ were able to limp into the knockout stage of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Bent Street, Back Circle and Tucville clinched their place in the knockout round compliments of contrasting results. Bent Street edged Broad Street 3-2.
Keith Caines, Job Caesar and Daniel Wilson netted in the ninth, 11th and 16th minute respectively. For the losers, Daniel Favourite and Rocky Gravesande scored in the fourth and 10th minute each.
Back Circle dismantled Tiger Bay 3-0. Selwyn Williams scored twice in the second and fourth minutes, while Jermaine Beckles netted in the seventh minute.
Tucville overcame a 4-1 deficit to draw 4-4 with Agricola. Orson Francois bagged a brace in the third and fourth minutes for Agricola, while Domini Garnett and Lloyd Matthews netted in the first and eighth minute.
For Tucville, Jermaine Junior recorded a double in the seventh and 15th minutes, while Jahaal Greaves and Raphael Edwards scored in the 12th and 17th.
The quarterfinal stage of the tournament will commence next Tuesday, when Albouystown come up against Broad Street at 20:00hrs, Sophia will engage Bent Street, Back Circle will lock horns with Tucville and Sparta Boss will have to live up to their hype against Future Stars.
The semi-final round kicks off on June 15, with the grand final set for June 17.
Winners of the tournament will pocket $500 000 and the championship trophy. On the other hand, the runners-up will receive $200 000 and the respective accolade.
The third- and fourth-place finishers will pocket $100 000 and $50,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade. On the individual side, $50 000 will be awarded to the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
