–to ensure supply meets int’l standard
BRIAN Tiwari, Chief Execuive Officer and Managing Director of B.K. International over the weekend expressed pleasure at the signing of contracts along with Toolsie Persaud Limited to supply stone for the Cheddi Jagan International Airport expansion project.
The CEO said: “It is with much humility that we were invited to the signing ceremony, where a contract for the supply of 50,000 aggregates for the expansion of the CJIA between BK Quarries Inc. and China Harbor Engineer Company was signed.
“We wish to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the Government of Guyana, particularly Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson, Minister of Business Dominick Gaskin, Minister of Communication Cathy Hughes, Minister within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Annette Ferguson for their intervention in having these materials supplied locally.
“We are, and will remain, personally indebted to these Ministers. We are very grateful for the support and leadership that was given by Minister Patterson and Gaskin to make this a reality; we appreciate their efforts to bring us on board as one of the local quarry suppliers for this project.
“We were also happy to support their request for a special concession on the price for these materials.
“We wish to also express our thanks to the contractor, China Harbour Engineering Company (Guyana) Inc for supporting the request by the Government of Guyana that these materials be procured and supplied locally.
“We wish to assure the government and the contractor that no effort will be spared in ensuring that all of the materials will be of the highest quality and meet the required specifications.
“We wish to reiterate that when we took over the quarry from Mazaruni Granite, the price of stones on the local market was $12,000 per ton; we were able to have this price reduced to the current cost of $8,000.”
