THE Guyana Squash Association (GSA) on Wednesday night served off its second junior tournament for 2017, the Woodpecker Products Ltd Junior National Squash Championships, at the Georgetown Club Inc. courts.
Four of the ten categories were contested on opening day. There were several exciting matches as players vied to register victories in their matchups.
Results in the respective categories were as follows.
Boys’ Under-11
Louis Da Silva trounced Chad De Abreu 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.
Nathan Rahaman whipped Shiloh Asregado 11-0, 11-4, 11-3.
Boys’ Under-13
Ethan Jonas overwhelmed Liam Carpenter 11-1, 11-3, 11-1.
Michael Alphonso defeated Zachary Persaud 11-3, 11-3, 11-2.
Demetrius De Abreu beat Nicholas Verwey 11-3, 11-2, 11-3.
Boys’ Under-15
Samuel Ince-Carvalhal overpowered Osmond Mack 11-0, 11-1, 11-2.
Shomari Wiltshire conquered Jason Gomes 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.
Gianni Carpenter bettered Mikhail Persaud 11-4, 11-2, 11-4.
Lucas Jonas defeated Dominic Collins 11-4, 11-4, 11-3.
Girls Under 15
Makeda Harding the better of Kirsten Gomes 11-3, 11-4, 11-9.
Abosaide Cadogan crushed Teija Edwards 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.
Madison Fernandes trounced Jahcinta Adams 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.
Kirsten Gomes got past Aliyah Persaud 11-9, 11-3, 11-2.
Makeda Harding thrashed Teija Edwards 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.
The tournament continued with a series of matches last evening.
