CHIEF Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday remanded two men from the North West District (NWD) for allegedly wounding a man during a brawl at a wake house.
Naresh Robertson, a 28-year-old driver and 20-year-old Ricardo France, a porter, were jointly charged with wounding Dwight Benjamin on April 9, 2017 at Wauna Village, NWD to cause him grievous bodily harm.
The men were not required to plead to the indictable charge. Police Prosecutor Arwyn Moore opposed bail and informed the court that the virtual complainant is still in a critical condition at the hospital, with a fractured skull and lacerations about the face.
Bail was denied and the men were remanded until May 23, 2017, when they will appear at the Mabaruma Magistrates Court. According to a report, the two defendants along with Benjamin were at a ‘wake house’ in the Wauna Village, when they had a misunderstanding.
The accused men became annoyed, allegedly picked up an object and dealt the victim several lashes about his head. The victim was picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the hospital.
