TORONTO, Canada – Only two positions were up for grabs when the Scarborough Umpires Cricket Association (SCUA) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Twilight Family Restaurant, Scarborough here on Sunday. And both incumbents, Albert Ramcharran and Azad Khan were returned unopposed as president and secretary respectively, a clear show of confidence in their leadership abilities.
Based on the constitution of the SCUA, the other posts, those of vice-president, treasurer and assistant secretary, were not contested, meaning that Bisham Singh remained the vice-president while Mathew Francis and Nazaam Ali are the treasurer and assistant secretary respectively.
The SCUA also took the opportunity to hand out certificates and extend congratulations to several of its members who were successful at various levels of the Canadian Cricket Umpires Association (CCUA) examinations over the past year.

Topping the list of successful candidates was Vish Jadunauth, who excelled at the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA) examinations and is now a fully qualified First Class umpire.
Jadunauth gained 94 marks at the WICUA exams, having completed the written category in 2015 and the practical and theory in November 2016. He was the only Canadian candidate during that period and his marks were only bettered by former Leeward Islands and West Indies player Sylvester ‘Bouncing’ Joseph and a Barbadian, both of whom tallied 96.
Apart from being an umpire, Jadunauth is also a long-standing executive member of the Scarborough Cricket Association (SCA) and a founding-member of the Ontario Softball Cricket League (OSCL).
SCUA secretary Khan, who also serves in a similar capacity in the CCUA, expressed delight in Jadunauth’s performance and urged him not to rest on his laurels. Jadunauth will receive his certificate at the upcoming WICUA convention scheduled for Jamaica from July 1-7, 2017.
Former Guyana Chronicle senior reporter and current representative in Toronto, Frederick Halley and Waheed Ali also received their Level One certificates.
Meanwhile, a specially arranged meeting will be held on Sunday, May 7 next at the Agincourt Community Centre in Scarborough to discuss playing conditions for the upcoming season and all captains and umpires are asked to make a special effort to attend. The meeting is scheduled to run from noon to 17:00hrs,
Among the resource personnel are umpires Azad Khan, Bisham Singh, Vish Jadunauth, Farouk Ali and OSCL vice-president Terry Mathura.
