WHEN the Guyana Boxing Board of Control’s (GBBC) `Locked and Loaded’ card gets underway on April 23 at the Giftland Mall, Pattensen, East Coast Demerara, the co-feature event between Edmund DeClou and Winston Pompey is expected to be a thriller and fight fans can expect value for money.
DeClou, a former CABOFE middleweight champion who is known to give his all whenever he enters the square jungle, will be making a welcome return to boxing as he faces Pompey in a super middleweight contest over six rounds on the ProAm/MMA card, which commences at 19:00hrs at the Giftland Mall.
DeClou left the amateur ranks in 2009 and ever since, each time he steps into the ring, he satisfies the fans’ appetites with ‘fireworks’.
The feature bout on the night’s card brings together Dexter `De Kid’ Marques and Venezuela’s Luis Alberto Requena Zarraga in a 10-round flyweight contest.
Marques 15-2-0, similar to DeClou’s, has been inactive for 13 months and like DeClou, will be seeking to shake off the ring rust with the hope of coming out victorious for a promised Commonwealth title fight right here in Guyana.
Marques last fought in February 2016 and this was against Zarraga’s countryman Freddy Belona, two years after his fight against Jamaican Rudolph Hodge, whom he (Marques) defeated in 2014 and was then absent from the ring until last year.
The other professional fight on the card will see Imran Khan face Keeve Allicock in a six-round lightweight contest.
Since entering the professional ranks in 2015, Khan has fought three times. The first he won via knock-out. It was a second-round victory over David Thomas, but the other two fights were against Quincy Gomes in February He drew the first and lost the second on points.
