Christopher Martin and D-Major out of Jamaica intend to set Bartica ‘ablaze with excitement’ at the Easter Regatta slated for Saturday, April 15.
Joining them at the mega concert will be local Universal Melodies Band featuring Zion Kid. The much talked about concert will be held at the Community Centre Ground.
The excitement will continue on Sunday, April 16 when some of the biggest names in powerboat racing will be placed under the spotlight.
The Power Boat Races will see Dave Scott, Jose Jardine, Sean Belle and the Bartica racers throwing down the gauntlet to Neil and Clint Gonsalves and the Pomeroon crew.
It promises to be a day of fun, thrills and excitement. Later in the evening, eight of Bartica’s beauty will vie for the coveted Miss Bartica Regatta Crown 2017 at the Community Centre Ground.
Last weekend, the delegates were paired with sponsors at a sashing ceremony on Sunday evening at a Bartica Regatta Pavilion.
The delegates are: Delegate No. 1, Shyan Beaton – Ms. Eldorado Trading; Delegate No. 2, Shania Thom – Falls Service Station; Delegate No. 3, Lakeshia Christian – Zhonhao Inc.; Delegate No. 4, Candia Paul – Top Brandz International; Delegate No. 5, Crystal William – Jags Aviation; Delegate No. 6, Nalini Baptiste – Captain Prince Transportation; Delegate No. 7, Leah Smith – Universal Melodies Band; and Delegate No 8, Gabriella Chapman – Ms. Aruwai Resort White H2O.
In spite of the late start, those present were treated to entertainment in the form of songs and dances by local talented Barticians.
Elizabeth Moonsammy, Secretary of the Bartica Regatta Committee, said whilst there is a challenge with regard to sponsorship, the Committee is working assiduously to pull off this year’s regatta.
However, she acknowledged the support given by longstanding companies and individuals over the years, which include Banks DIH, Ansa McAL, Aruwai Group and BK International.
She also recognised the contributions of the members of the Committee, notably Pageant Coordinator Angelica Fredericks.
Mayor of Bartica, Gifford Marshall,in his remarks, said there is a need for wholesome activities for youths in Bartica.
He called on stakeholders and even the ordinary man in the field to come together and make the 2017 regatta a success.
The spectators were treated to the first judged segment of the competition. The delegates showcased their costumes which were in a wide kaleidoscope of colours and it was clear that the judges had their work cut out from the look of the costumes displayed.
Designers for this segment were Denise Jennings, Dwight Beaton, Randy Madray and Simone Semple. The audience was also treated to a sneak preview of the swimsuits, also designed by Jennings,as the eight girls strutted their walk and poses.
Finally, when they appeared for the sashing by their sponsors, they dazzled in simple white cocktail dresses designed by Elizabeth Waddle of Bartica.
Also present were Regional Chairman,Gordon Bradford,who is also the Chairman of the Regatta Committee; Regional Executive Officer of Region Seven,R. Edinborro; Town Clerk Phebe Wallerson;the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Bartica, sponsors and members of the Regatta Committee and Town Council.
