A SOPHIA resident was remanded to prison on Monday by Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul after she was charged with the illegal possession of narcotics and ammunition.

Twenty – seven – year Kelly Ann Martin of Ram Singh, Sophia Greater Georgetown was recently nabbed by police after a smoke grenade and a quantity of marijuana were found in her home during a raid.

Police later learnt that the woman was planning on smuggling the contraband into the Camp Street prison for a death row prisoner known as ‘Smallie.’ It is alleged that the mother of 2, on February 16, 2017 at ‘B’ Field Sophia, had a CS smoke grenade in her possession, without being the holder of a license.

It is further alleged that on February 17, 2017 at the same location, she had 130 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in her possession, for the purpose of trafficking.

Martin, a dispatcher at New Wave taxi Service pleaded not guilty to both charges and was remanded to prison until March 27, 2017.

Police Prosecutor, David Goodridge told the court that police ranks acted on information and went to the home of the defendant, where they conducted a search and found the grenade and marijuana hidden in her bedroom.

Goodridge further revealed that the accused in her caution statement, admitted to police that she was taking the items for ‘Smallie’.

The prosecutor further explained that the woman told ranks that she collected the grenade from an unknown person and intended to carry it to the penitentiary for the prisoner. The police are still investigating the matter as they await Martin’s phone records.

Based on information, Martin was charged before for attempting to smuggle marijuana into the Camp Street prison but the matter was dismissed.

According to reports, the contraband was for convicted Bartica Massacre felon, Mark Royden Williams called ‘Smallie’ who is on death row after he was found guilty of 8 counts of murder and four counts of manslaughter.
