A BUSINESSMAN was on Tuesday placed on $200,000 bail after he was charged with obtaining money by false pretense when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Sixty- two-year-old Harry Baptiste of Queenstown, Georgetown, denied the allegation which stated that between December 5, 2016 and January 11, 2017, at Georgetown, with intent to defraud Audrey Mootoosamy, he obtained $2,000,500, by falsely pretending that he was in a position to sell her land and property.
It was reported that Baptiste had indicated to the virtual complaint that he wanted to settle the matter, but Mootoosamy informed the court that the defendant had not come up with the money. Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones objected to bail. However Magistrate McLennan granted him bail in the sum of $200,000. The matter was adjourned until February 27.
