CITY Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday sentenced a 39-year-old push-cart vendor to 12 months in prison after he admitted to a charge of breaking and entering.Damion Austin of Sophia confessed that between January 4 and January 5 in Georgetown he, broke and entered the dwelling house of Toney Fanner and stole two cell phones, two laptops, an earphone, a power pad, an Access textbook, a shoulder bag and an I-pod – totaling $1.1M.
According to the defendant, he along with two others broke into Fanner’s home and stole the items. Austin further explained that he was given one of the cell phone and a laptop as his cut from the theft.
The prosecutor told the court that on January 4 about 19:15 hours Fanners secured his two-story home. However on his return on the next day (January 5) he noticed the back door ajar and the items mentioned in the charge missing.
The victim made a report at the Kitty Police Station where an investigation was launched and based upon reports Austin was arrested. The suspect confessed to the crime and took them to various locations to recover some of the stolen articles.
“Your worship ah request a small sentence…. I don’t want to waste the court time,” Austin said as he begged that magistrate for leniency since he is the father of four children.
