CHILDREN living in four orphanages in the city benefited from Christmas goodies compliments of Tesouro Resources last week. The mining company, managed by Dean Hassan, feted approximately 400 children who live in the St. Ann’s, Shaheed’s Boys and Girls, and the St. John Bosco’s orphanages along with Joshua House, West Ruimveldt Children Home and the Sophia Care Center.
According to a statement from the company, a team of officials from Tesouro Resources visited the orphanages to share meals and distribute gifts as part of the company’s commitment to ensure that the less fortunate, especially children are able to enjoy the splendor of Christmas.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tesouro Resources, Dean Hassan said his company recognises the struggles that many children face, be it separation from their parents or lack of the necessary financial resources and as such believes that “it is our social responsibility to support them, not only during the Christmas Season but throughout the year.”
Tesouro’s team was led by Office Manager, Jaswick Williams who at each visit sang Christmas carols and danced with the children. Williams also told the children about the significance of Christmas.
“We recognise the need to support these children, not only at Christmas but throughout the year, Tesouro Resources will in the coming year continue to give to the society despite possible future struggles of the mining industry,” he stated.
Meanwhile, 16 year-old Savitree Mohase of the St. Ann’s Orphanage thanked the company for spreading joy. “We’re very thankful for what Mr. Hassan is doing. It makes us feel like someone out there cares about us.”
Mohase’s sentiments were corroborated by the orphanage’s Director, Sister Leonie Da Costa who said, “The girls have been brought joy and the Spirit of Christmas…It is my hope that the children will remember later in life the blessings they have received here and will in turn give back to society.”
