Dear Editor,
IN all fairness to everyone who intends to pen any future correspondence relating to their objection of Mr. K. Juman Yassin as President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), I thought of the following and perhaps you can consider this message for publication.Feel free to write but at the same time, please share with the general public what are your plans and ideas you have for sports development in Guyana if you were holding the seat of President of the GOA. Mr. Frank Fyffe can lead off with reference to his KN report, ‘K.J.Yassin should know it is time to go’ dated Dec 20,2016…’
Mr. Andy Medas King can follow with his KN report dated Dec 24,2016 and captioned ‘More of Juman Yassin.’ I say to the author that perhaps no one came forward or no one nominated anyone to challenge Mr.K.J.Yassin, because they know very well that they cannot rub shoulders with the gentleman as captain of the ship. Mr. Orin Davidson who writes for the Stabroek News can also consider penning his contribution if he were President of the GOA for sports development of Guyana and how exactly Guyana can attend the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and possibly attain a medal of any kind.
Please let the focus be based on the local athletes of Guyana. Keep the overseas-based athletes out of this forum, because they are in a league of their own within their respective camps.
Mr. Troy Doris is the only overseas-based athlete that I know of from the press who can carry Guyana’s flag and possibly make it on the medal podium at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. That again, depends on his preparation from his camp in the USA.
No disrespect to any locally based athlete, but I honestly can’t think of anyone else at the moment who can join Mr.T. Doris as a potential medal winner. The reality is that Guyana is way off the process with preparation and it will take many years to accomplish that aspect before we even head to the Olympic Games and qualify for any final. That’s the reality and even with all the funding available from 2017 to 2020,it’s not possible. The stakeholders all know what they need to get done and if Guyana continues with the current mentality that is showcased with some via the press, the journey will get much longer for Guyana. Again, that’s the reality folks. Take it or leave it.
Regards
Trevor Pemberton
