About 250 children from various communities in Linden were presented with Christmas gifts from Mayor Carwyn Holland and his family. Mayor Holland and his family visited several streets including Gardinia, Dhalia and Hodge Lane where scores of children flocked them for gifts especially the less fortunate ones. The Mayor also visited the Mackenzie Hospital children’s ward. Holland disclosed that sharing toys on Christmas day is a 12-year-old tradition for him. He said it has taken on greater

significance now that he is Mayor. “I’ve always given gifts or treats at Christmas, this is the first time I’ve been able to do it on a large scale, which motivates me to do it even bigger next year. The joy in the children’s faces is my reward, I felt blessed giving to them,” Holland said.
“Many children due to the financial situation of their parents were unable to be given a Christmas gifts and so this brought great joy to some of these boys and girls who showed their appreciation in hearty smiles, hugs and kisses and loud thank you,” Holland commented. “I like this gift, I will cherish it…thank you Mr. Mayor,” said one lad who showed off his new brand truck. “I am happy for this gift and I would like to say thank you to the Mayor for wishing me a happy Christmas with this gift,” little Tricia said.
“Our children are our most important human resource because they are our future, too often we get distracted and forget to make them a priority, this is my simple gesture in that vein,” Holland explained as he shared the gifts out. He expressed gratitude to Capital Install Guyana, President Granger, Rent.a.Tent, Gafoors, IPA Group and Bosai for their contribution made towards the drive. In 2017, he is hoping to secure a gift for every child in Linden.
