Technical staff of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) have down tools protesting a 2% salary increase which the management of the power company has imposed. A number of employees are presently protesting outside the company’s Main Street, Georgetown office.

The workers, who man the national power grid on a 24 hour basis, have said that the increase is unreasonable and does not cater for increased cost of living. They are calling on the subject Minister David Patterson to intervene on their behalf.
