CLOSE to 200 children will be treated to toys and goodies this Sunday when the Indian Action Committee (IAC) visits Mahaica, East Coast Demerara to host its first ever Christmas party and charity drive. The party will be held at the Virginia Primary School at Cane Grove, Mahaica.
IAC Secretary and Project Coordinator Ms. Saira Alli has said the organisation was initially working on providing gifts for 300 children in an underprivileged area, but its toy donation drive did not produce matching results.
“We were catering for 300, but we had to cut down to 200 because of lack of support,” Alli said.
She told the Guyana Chronicle Tuesday that the IAC now has to purchase several gifts to arrive at the new set total of 200, so that the children can truly enjoy the holidays. She said the children will also be treated to lunch and party bags, “to spread the holiday cheer.”
Santa Claus will also be on hand to excite with gifts, photographs and fun to the children, who range in age from three to ten.
Alli said the IAC is still accepting gifts, in the hope of providing for the originally targeted number of children, and any individual or organisation willing to donate gifts can do so at donation boxes located at Gafoors, Ashmins, Sachi and DeSinco Trading, or at the IAC office at 1762 Railway Embankment, Cummings Lodge.
The organisation can also be reached on telephone number 222-5163.
