THE fourteenth edition of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club’s Busta ‘Champion of Champions’ first division tournament is set to bowl off this Sunday in the Ancient County of Berbice, with matches in Zone A.The tournament, which has developed into one of Guyana’s premier cricket tournaments, will be played this year as a T20 format, and not the usual 50-over format.
Eight teams in Berbice, namely Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets, Tucber Park, West Berbice, Police, Blairmont, Albion, Young Warriors and Upper Corentyne will be involved in the tournament.
Two matches will be played at one venue.
The matches on Sunday at the Area ‘H’ ground are: Young Warriors versus West Berbice from 09:30hrs, while defending champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets will clash with Upper Corentyne from 13:15hrs.
Matches in Zone B will be contested the following Sunday at the Albion Community Centre ground. Tucber Park will play Police from 09:30hrs, while the home team Albion will face Blairmont from 13:15hrs.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the club and the Busta Company agreed to play the Zone matches on separate days so that the organisers can properly brand the venue and do other promotional work.
The organisers would provide coloured Busta T-shirts for each of the eight teams. The semi-finals and final will be played after the festive holiday season.
The semi-finals will be played at the Area ‘H’ ground, while the venue for the final will be announced at a later date.
The winning team will pocket $100 000, and the beautiful Busta trophy, while the second- and third-place teams will receive $50 000 and $30 000 respectively.
Meanwhile, the management of the Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets cricket team has released the squad for the opening match.
The squad reads: Delbert Hicks, Kevlon Anderson, Junior Sinclair, Jason Sinclair, Clinton Pestano, Shawn Perreira, Keith Simpson, Sylus Tyndall, Royston Crandon, Keon Sinclair, Chanderpaul Govindan, Collis Butts and Brandon Corlette.
