GDF private remanded for possession of marijuana

Guyana Defence Force (GDF) private, Lennox Williams was remanded for allegedly having in his possession 496 grams of cannabis sativa at Fort Wellington. Williams, 22, attached to the agriculture corps, Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara and also of Lot 44 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, appeared at the Blairmont Court, before Magistrate Rhondel Weaver and pleaded not guilty to the charge.

He is expected to return to Fort Wellington Court on December 1. Police Prosecutor, Corporal Racquel Mars told the court that on November 17, 2016, at about 12:30h, ranks from the traffic department of the Fort Wellington Police Station were on mobile patrol when one of the officers received a tip off and proceeded to stopped motor car HC 7077 which was driving east along the Bath Settlement Public Road.

At the time, the motor car had five occupants including the defendant, who is alleged to have had a transparent bag, which was found behind the front passenger seat between his legs.

The bag was opened in the presence of all the occupants of the car and a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana were found.
