HOSTS Fruta Conquerors sounded an early warning when they hammered Pele FC 8-0 in the second game of a double-header to start the Fruta Conquerors U-19 Academy League competition last Wednesday at the Tucville playfield.Leon Richardson led all scorers with a hat-trick (22nd, 33rd and 38th minutes) while there was a brace each for Isaiah Reddy (20th and 23rd minutes) and Randy Layne (25th and 83rd minutes). Jeremy Garrett added his name to the scorers’ list in the 64th minute to complete the rout of the Group ‘B’ contest.
The opening encounter of the 12-team Invitational League proved to be more competitive as Eastveldt FC had the better of Tavelle’s Academy 2-1 in a Group ‘A’ affair. Paul Chung opened the scoring in the 5th minute and 13 minutes later Travis Ramnaught doubled the score. Troy Ross pulled back one for the losers in the 32nd minute.
The League will continue today at the said Tucville playfield with another double-header, beginning at 16:00hrs when Buxton United will oppose Linden’s Botofago FC in Group ‘A’ and to follow, Order and Discipline FC meet West Demerara’s Uitvlugt Warriors in a Group ‘B’ match-up.
The one-round competition will climax with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-final KO stage, to determine which two teams will contest the Championship match.
The twelve invited teams have been divided into two equal groups: A – Tavelle’s Academy, Eastveldt FC, Buxton United, Botofago FC, Santos FC and GFC and B- Fruta Conquerors FC, Pele FC, Uitvlugt Warriors, Order and Discipline FC, Western Tigers FC and Black Pearl FC.
