Duo jailed for beating employer

Two men were sentenced to 24 months imprisonment by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore after they pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm to their employer.

Aron Paul, 24 and Imran Peters, 21 confessed to the joint charge, which stated that on November 11 at Princeville, Potaro Backdam, they unlawfully and maliciously wounded Calvin DaSantos with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause grievous bodily harm.

The unrepresented men told the court that DaSantos had taken them to work in the Potaro Backdam where he promised to pay them; however upon arrival at Potaro Backdam, DaSantos abandoned the men. The men related that a villager had given them information concerning the whereabouts of their boss.

The duo went to their employer’s Princeville home where a heated confrontation ensued; the men picked up a piece of wood and dealt DaSantos several lashes about his body and head.  DaSantos was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the hospital where he remains hospitalised.
