THE Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club will stage its Annual Boxing Day Meet with an eight-race card at the club’s facility, Bush Lot farm, Corentyne, Berbice on December 26, starting at 13:00hrs.
According to a release, eight races are carded for the day’s programme with the feature event being a nine-furlong race for horses classified `B and Lower’ and will carry a total prize package of $2.258M.
The winner of the event will carry home $1.2M, while the other top three finishers will receive $600,000, $300,000 and $150,000 respectively.
Two seven-furlong races are also slated to be contested, with the first being for horses that are West Indian bred maidens and Guyana bred H and Lower class. The winner will earn $250,000, while the other top three finishers will take home $125,000, $63,000 and $32,000 respectively.
The other seven furlong race is opened to horses classified `G and lower’ and the winner will earn $280,000, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will receive $140,000, $70,000 and $35,000 respectively.
An `L class’ six-furlong race for non-winners will also be contested and the winner will receive $130,000, while the other top three finishers will earn $65,000, $32,000 and $16,000 respectively.
There will also be a Five-furlong race for another set of `L rated horses, but this will be in the open category and the same prize structure as the first five-furlong race will be in effect.
A six-furlong race for horses classified `E and Lower’ is on the cards and the winner of this event will trot home with $500,000, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will earn $250,000, $125,000 and $63,000 respectively.
Two-year-old Guyana-bred maiden will compete in a six-furlong event as well and the winner will earn $220,000 while the other top three finishers will receive $110,000, $55,000 and $28,000 respectively.
The final race on the day’s card is opened to horses classified `J and Lower and Two-Year-Old Guyana -bred horses.
The distance is six furlongs and the winner will receive $180,000, while second place will earn $90,000. The third and fourth place finishers will receive $45,000 and $22,000 respectively.
The races are being conducted under the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority and entries will be closed on December 18.
