A 55-YEAR-OLD labourer was released on $100,000 bail after pleading not guilty to a simple larceny charge before City Magistrate Dylon Bess on Tuesday.
Carl Kattau is accused of stealing an amplifier, two speakers, a Pioneer CD deck and a music horn – total value $99,000 from the motor car PTT 8061 property of Quacy Cornett.
The Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara resident denied the charge which allegedly occurred between October 25 and November 3 at Fourth Street, Alberttown.
Police Prosecutor, Christopher Morris opposed the granting of bail citing that the accused two years ago was charged for a similar offence.
However, his objection was overruled by the Magistrate, who granted Kattau bail to the tune of $100,000 and adjourned the matter until November 21.
Meanwhile, a 23-year-old armed robbery accused was also granted bail when he appeared before Magistrate Bess.
Kester McPoy of Independence Boulevard pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on November 1, at Georgetown, while being armed with a knife robbed Freddie Yasim of a phone valued $50,000, as well as $3,000 in cash along with $2,000 in phone cards.
Prosecutor Morris made no objections to bail, which was granted to the tune of $75,000 by Magistrate Bess. The matter stands adjourned until November 21.
