IT was the Kwakwani combined side who walked away as champions after defeating Team Buckets 14-7 in the first Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) U-18 male three-on-three tournament at the Burnham Court last Sunday.
The team featured two Kwakwani players in Stanton Rose and Jamal Gilkes and two Georgetown players in Timothy Thompson and Jonathan Mangra.
The side’s dominance started from the quarter finals where they left Chasers out of sight by blowing them out 19-7. They would then move on to knock off Royal Titans in the semi-finals 12-7 and then beat Team Buckets in the finals.
Meanwhile, Team Buckets left the Road Warriors looking like sick puppies with a 17-8 drubbing in their quarter-final matchup making for a good first showing. The team was awarded a walkover over Tutorial Combine for their first win.
In the other games, Royal Titans downed Plaisance Warriors 10-8 while Greeks ‘n’ Sneaks defeated Charlestown Tigers. Greeks ‘n’ Sneaks crushed Jaguars 13-4 while Royal Titans defeated Tutorial Surprise in a close win 9-8. Plaisance Warriors left Clutch holding a loss after beating them 21-9.
In earlier matches, Charlestown Tigers defeated Christ Church 15-5. Chasers edged PC Royals 11-9 while Road Warriors had the better of Young Warriors,beating them 5-2.
With the win, the Kwakwani side will be representing Guyana in St. Lucia in February 2017 at the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) 3×3 tournament.
