The Most Valuable Players prizes for the Guyana Cup 6 which bowls off today were revealed yesterday at Steve’s Jewellery on Church Street by owner and proprietor Steve Naraine. The prizes, inclusive of a gold cricket bat with diamonds encrusted were proudly handed over to president of the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association,Dharam Persaud and vice-president Ricky Deonarain .
According to Naraine,he is proud to once again partner with the GFSCA,since the association has consistently given its support to the softball cricket scene.
“They have done a lot for softball cricket in Guyana and they give back to the communities and that’s what I am all about; I am proud to partner with them once again.”
The three- day competition will have teams from Canada, New York, Florida and Guyana,which will all compete for cricket supremacy in the Americas.
The tournament will be played in the Open and Masters categories with action starting from 9.00 hrs, with 12 games to be played simultaneously at GDF, Police, Malteenoes, DCC and Ghandi Youth grounds .
At the DCC ground on November 6, there will be the Masters and Open Finals along with three exhibition 10/10 female games. The female teams include Mikes Wellwoman, Trophy Stall Angels, 4R Lioness and Blue Divas. The day’s event will start at 10:00hrs.
Over $2M in cash and other incentives are up for grabs. Tickets cost $1,000 each and will be sold at the gate. Prizes are also up for grabs for spectators who are asked to keep their half tickets in order to be eligible.
According to Deonarine the tournament promises lots of excitement and fans will get their money’s worth.
