THE Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund Committee (SILWFC) recently hosted its Annual Bursary Awards Ceremony during which it presented awards to 12 children of sugar workers for the year 2016.Speaking at the ceremony, the Chairman of the entity, Allan Munroe congratulated the awardees and encouraged their parents to continue supporting them in all their endeavours.

Munroe said that education is the key to success but this encompasses not only academic studies, but inculcating the correct attitudes that would enable them to contribute to the development of Guyana. He said too that spiritual development is also important and will assist in enabling them to be rounded individuals.

“Learn to respect each other, irrespective of race, creed or political belief and strive to make this country a world that is just, equitable and inclusive,” the Chairman said. He also urged the gathering to appreciate the urgency to contribute to growth and environmental protection that would benefit everyone.
