A TIMEHRI guard was Tuesday committed to stand trial in the High Court for the murder of his friend, whom he allegedly stabbed during a drinking spree at his home.It is alleged that Lakeram Shankar, 25, of Fire Station Road, Timehri between May 8 and 9, at Timehri murdered Kawal Persaud.
Magistrate Leron Daly made the ruling based on the facts presented by the prosecutor. She stated that sufficient evidence was led by the prosecution to have the defendant stand trial in the High Court at the next sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The fatal altercation between the two men occurred during a party.
They had been seen sitting on a bench in front of the premises consuming alcohol before they had a heated exchange of words. Shankar then allegedly dealt Persaud, 54, a single stab wound to his abdomen and the man collapsed and died on the spot.
