Linden Lions club supports children with disabilities

Members of the Linden Lions Branch Club in Linden in Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Berbice) have been busy doing community work in the town in recent weeks in keeping with the Lions International Motto: “We Serve”The Club in collaboration with friends of the Lions recently presented to the Linden Centre for Disabled Children several electrical fans to make the Staff and children comfortable. The Club also provided one week of snacks and refreshments for over 25 youths from the Abdul Mohamed Basketball Foundation during their summer camp.

With support from Banks DIH, Foreign Links Spare Parts shop, Bernard’s Variety store and Hinds Service station, it also hosted a primary schools children essay competition under the theme, “What is Linden like after 100 years of bauxite mining?” Eight primary schools were invited and over a dozen students participated.
First prize winner of the essay competition was Shaqueena Edwards of Amelia’s Ward Primary with Akeam Anthony of Christianburg Primary, Matthew Grenville of Watooka Day Primary and Tanika Mohabir of Regma Primary, winning second third and fourth places respectively. The presentations of prizes were made in the LEN (Linden Economic Network) board room.
Member Lion Jermaine Joseph said that the Lions Clubs International will soon be observing its 100th anniversary and the Linden Branch activities, more of which are forthcoming, are aimed at assisting the International body to reach its Centennial Service Challenge goal of serving more than 100 million people by June 2018. The executive body for Linden Lions Branch Club is comprised: Lion Gwenett Sandiford President, Lion Karen Joseph- Secretary and Lion Alexis Billey Treasurer.
