A FORTY-TWO-year-old Moruca resident died on Friday afternoon following a collision between two boats in the waterway of the North West District sub-region.Dead is Rodwell Daniels of Parakese, a satellite village of the Santa Rosa area at Moruca. While reports are sketchy, persons in the area noted that Daniels was in a small boat powered by a 15 Horse Power engine when it collided with another vessel which was being powered by a 200 horse power engine.
The accident occurred close to sunset, near the Kamwatta area in the Moruca sub-region. Daniels was taken to the Kumaka District Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He sustained mainly head injuries. A boat operator, whose name was given as Perry Norton, is assisting with the investigation into the accident.
There have been several river accidents in recent months in the waterways in the North West District. Persons have reported that speeding is usually attributed as the main cause of such accidents.
