Uitvlugt inch closer to the top with 10-0 drubbing of Jetty Gunners
… Eagles, Golden Warriors play to 1-1 stalemate

UITVLUGT inched closer to the top of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF)/West Deemara Football Association (WDFA) STAG Senior League with a 10-0 drubbing over Jetty Gunners, while Eagles and Golden Warriors played to a 1-1 stalemate when play in the League continued last Sunday at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, West Coast Demerara.The heroics of Lerone Jacobs, who rocked Jetty Gunners’ net on four occasions during the 90-minute duration of the game, ensured his team got the full three points to carry them to 16 points after winning their fifth of six matches. They drew the other to secure one point for that game.
With 16 points to their name, Uitvlugt are now third in the league behind points leaders Den Amstel who have 19 points but from six wins and a draw after seven games with a plus 10 goal difference compared to Uitvlugt’s plus 20.
Pouderoyen are placed second with 16 points also from six games, five of which they won and drew the other with a plus 21 goal difference.
Playing in the feature game of a double-header card last Sunday, Jacobs opened his team’s account from as early as the 10th minute and doubled it nine minutes later. Seven minutes before the end of the first period, he tucked in his third goal, while Keion and Kevin Duke supported with one goal each in the 12th and 14th minutes respectively to see Uitvlugt to a healthy 5-0 lead at halftime.
On resumption, Uitvlugt scored another quintet of goals with the first coming off the boot of Keion Duke in the 46th minute of the game, before Siretsi Leech, Jacobs, Carlise Carrol and Daniel Floy found their target in the 50th, 60th, 61st and 71st minutes respectively.
The loss for Jetty Gunners dropped them to ninth place in the standings with four points from seven matches. They won one, lost five and drew one.
In the opening match that day, Chris Macey gave Eagles the lead with a 18th minute goal before Golden Warriors equalised eight minutes later.
As a result of the draw, Eagles remain in sixth position with 11 points from three wins, two losses and two drawn games.
Golden Warriors are currently eight with five points from one win, five losses and two draws.
Another double-header is scheduled for this weekend at the same venue.
