ANGELINA Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt after two years of marriage and 12 years together, leaving fans stunned.The 41-year-old star, who cited irreconcilable differences, decided to end their marriage amid claims that she was unhappy with the way Brad had been parenting their six children.
“This decision was made for the health of the family,” Angelina’s attorney Robert Offer said in a statement, while Brad, 52, was quoted as saying that his focus is now on the “well-being” of their brood.
In a statement to ‘People’, Brad said:
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids.
“I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
Angelina’s lawyer Robert Offer said: “This decision was made for the health of the family.
“She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
After news of their divorce broke, gossip sites in the US began to speculate that Brad’s friendship with his ‘Allied’ co-star, Marion Cotillard, had put extra strain on his marriage.
According to ‘Page Six’, Angelina had hired a private eye to watch her husband. “He’s in the throes of a midlife crisis, and Angie is fed-up,” a source told the website.
The pair were last pictured together just two months ago, enjoying a happy family dinner with their twins, Knox and Vivienne.
However, it’s now claimed that Hollywood actress Angelina filed for divorce from her husband just weeks after the outing, with the date of separation listed as September 15.
The pair were snapped exchanging smiles with their kids during a birthday breakfast in West Hollywood on July 12.
Brad met Angelina in the summer of 2004 on the set of ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ while he was still married to ‘Friends’ star, Jennifer Aniston.
Angelina was previously wed to Billy Bob Thornton and Johnny Lee Miller.
The couple made their first red-carpet appearance together at the premiere of Angelina’s ‘The Good Shepherd’.
