— falls from scaffold
CONSTRUCTION worker Marrion Matthews Adams, 31, of Lot 75, Block ‘E’ South Sophia Georgetown, fell to his death on Saturday morning after being electrocuted while working on a building under construction at Lot 1B, Public Road, Great Diamond, East Bank Demerara.

He was pronounced dead at the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was rushed after the incident.
George La Fleur, brother of the deceased, said he received a call from his sister, informing that his brother “was doing some work on the East Bank, and got into an accident and he fell.”
La Fleur said he visited his brother’s worksite at 10:15am and was told that his younger brother had already died and his body had been taken to the hospital close by.
“He was working at 35 feet in the air with no safety harness; I don’t believe he was experienced enough to work on such a height without being secured,” La Fleur stated.
“What happened was that my brother was at the top pulling up a section of the scaffold, which hooked an electrical wire that was close to the building. He (got) shocked, and it pitched him back, and he tumbled down the scaffold.”
La Fleur noted that a post mortem will have to decide whether the electric shock or the fall had killed his brother. La Fleur emphasised that his brother had worked for several years in the construction sector, but started working on the building only last Tuesday.
He said the police visited the area and collected information pertaining to his brother’s death.
The late Marrion Matthews Adams leaves to mourn four brothers and one sister. His parents died several years ago.
Construction work was discontinued after the incident.
