Anthony steals the march to win feature Degree 35-lap cycle race

TEAM Evolution’s Michael Anthony stole the march on his rivals to win the feature 35-lap event of the 16th Annual DeSinco Trading 11-race cycle programme,which was staged around the inner circuit of the National Park yesterday.The event was organized by cycling coach Hassan Mohamed.Anthony,who returned a winning time of one hour 17 minutes 38.49 seconds in winning the event, also won two of the eight prime prizes that were up for grabs.
From the start of the race Anthony,and second place finisher Raphael Leung,along with Christopher Griffith, Raul Leal and Andrew Hicks,opened a lead but were caught by the chasing pack which included Andrew Hicks, last year’s winner Junior Niles, Shaquille Agard, Jaikarran Sukhai and Paul Cho-Wee-Nam. Anthony then jumped the pack but was chased by Leung, Paul DeNobrega, Christopher Griffith, Niles and Cho-Wee-Nam who all connected and from there they were never challenged.
With three laps remaining, Anthony, Leung and DeNobrega opened a sizeable lead over Niles and Griffith.Anthony then started the sprint for the finish from the 125-metre mark and held on to the lead to win from Leung, DeNobrega, Griffith, Niles and Cho-Wee-Nam,in that order.
Griffith,during the course of the event won four prime prizes,while Niles and DeNobrega won one each.
While Niles was dethroned in the 35-lap race, he successfully defended his veterans’ under 50-years of age, five-lap title, winning in a time of 11 minutes 53 seconds,ahead of Keith Fernandes and Ian `Dumb Boy’ Jackson respectively.
The junior/juvenile 10-lap race was won by Hicks in a time of 21 minutes 00.38 seconds. Leung placed second and Nigel Dugin third.
Kennard Lovell won the five-lap race for veterans over 50 years of age. Second was Linden Blackman and finishing third was Courtney Hackett.
Keon Thomas won the five-lap race for mountain bikers ahead of Jude Bentley and Shane Budhan respectively.
The two-lap event for BMX boys 6-9 years old was won by John Niles. Second was Jared Barrington. Third was Shay Sue-Hang.
Zab James won the three-lap race for BMX boys 12-14 years of age,ahead of Sue-Hang.
For his sterling performances throughout the 2016 cycle season and even before, Sue-Han,who hails from Berbice, was presented with a BMX cycle, compliments of Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited.
This gesture,according to race organizer Hassan Mohamed,has been something that the Ricks and Sari group has been doing for over a decade and,according to Mohamed, the company will continue to recognize the youngsters’ potential with similar incentives.
