Police, Tigers’ coaches both optimistic of victory ahead of today’s final

COACHES of the two finalists of the 22nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Football Tournament, which concludes this evening at the Tucville ground ,are both optimistic of victory.Dwayne Bobb, coach of the of the Guyana Police Force team admitted that the Western Tigers unit has had a good run this season,;winning the Georgetown Premier League just over a month ago.However, Bobb said his charges are ready for whatever the West Ruimveldt based unit brings to them (Police).
Bobb,who coached the team to a third place finish in the Georgetown Premier League ,said his team has had an excellent season so far and is confident they can continue their good run.
Bobb will be hoping that strikers Quinci Holder and Anthio Wallace will receive valuable support from Travis Jones and Winston Tanner, while Darius Frank has proven throughout the tournament that he is capable of holding things between the uprights.
Western Tigers’ coach, Calvin Allen, is equally confident, stating that Western Tigers have come a long way and cannot afford to falter ,since his team members have been going hard at it and are all well- primed to take the $700,000 first-prize purse and the Aruwai Resort trophy.
Allen is looking forward to leading goal-scorer and central forward, Randolph Wagner,along with prolific goal scorer Dwayne McClennon, to come good on the big day and will be relying on assistance from midfielders Phillip Rowley, Daren Benjamin, and Romell Legall.
The runners- up in the tournament will receive $300,000 and the Ansa McAl trophy.
The third-place play-off, which will also be played today at the same venue, will bring together Ann’s Grove of East Coast and Federal Winners Connections of Linden, and the winning team will earn $200,000 and the John Fernandes trophy, while the team placing fourth will earn $100,000 and the Ministry of State trophy.
The highest goal scorer of the tournament will receive a three-piece suit, compliments of A.H & L Kissoon Furniture Store.
Ricks and Sari Agro Industries Limited will also donate hampers to every member of the winning team.
Meanwhile, the organiser of the tournament, Lennox Arthur, has decided to stage a seven-a-side competition between three teams; with the winner of receiving $30,000.That will commence at 17hrs.
