Toddler killed in Mahaicony smash-up

A three-year-old boy was killed and several persons injured following an accident at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara early Saturday.A woman named Latoya Wayne and three other passengers, including the toddler, were travelling in a taxi along the East Coast Demerara road when, at Mahaicony, the taxi was allegedly hit by an oncoming vehicle which had suffered a blowout of one of its wheels, causing it to topple.

In the resulting smash-up, seven persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where the toddler was pronounced dead on arrival.

Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, Wayne’s brother-in-law disclosed that he received a call at about 1:30 pm stating that she was involved in an accident.
A source at the hospital indicated that five persons remain in serious condition and are currently receiving medical attention.
