Flying Stars to stage 25-lap Executive Memorial cycle road race on Sunday

THE Flying Stars Cycle Club (FSCC) will stage a 25-lap cycle road race around the outer circuit of the National Park on Sunday, in memory of five of its past executives who have all passed away.According to the club’s treasurer William Howard, the event is in memory of the FSCC’s former executives Charles Chichester, Donald Robinson, Oswald Taitt, Cecil Anderson and Stanley Boyce.
The event will cater for five category of cyclists and will commence at 09:00hrs from outside the National Park entrance on Carifesta Avenue.
The categories that will be involved are Open/seniors, Juniors, Veterans Under-45 years of age and Over-45 years as well as Mountain bikers.
Howard disclosed that the activity is being sponsored by former national cyclists in the Diaspora including former national champions Neville Hunte, Victor Rutherford, Monty Davis, Randolph Toussaint and M. Rogers.
Chichester once served as the club’s vice-president and was also a vice-president of the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF). He was also the Sunday Editor of the Guyana Graphic (now Guyana Chronicle).
Robinson who acted as president of the Guyana Olympic Association for a short time was the club’s president and also served as second vice-president of the GCF.
Taitt was once a vice-president of the club and was racing secretary of the GCF as was Anderson who served in both capacities. Boyce, on the other hand, was an ordinary club member.
