DR. Veerasammy Ramayya has tendered his resignation as Regional Executive Officer (REO) of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six with effect from September 15, 2016.This was announced by the Ministry of Communities in a statement yesterday which noted that the resignation letter was offered to the Minister of Communities, Ronald Bulkan, on August 10.

According to the Ministry, receipt of the resignation letter was acknowledged, and heartfelt gratitude expressed to the outgoing REO for a short-lived yet “remarkable” tenure.

Further, the Ministry sought to assure residents of Region Six that no effort will be spared to ensure the region is provided with a replacement with the administrative skill to deliver the effective leadership to the region in the provision of services.

In this light, it was disclosed that three prospective candidates have since been shortlisted, and the process of selection will commence shortly.

Efforts to contact Dr Ramayya for comment yesterday proved futile.

In July, Ramayya was reported to have ceased performing the duties of REO without formally resigning from the position. Vice-Chairman of the Region Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Six, Mr Dennis De Roop, in a press briefing at the Regional Chairman’s Office at Vryman’s Erven in New Amsterdam, had told reporters: “The region got a setback now, we having a little confusion: the REO has left; I must say he walk off the job. There is no correspondence to say he is on leave (and) there is no approval of leave for him. I am of the opinion that he voluntary walk off the job. I was made to understand he gone overseas; however, we [Region Six Administration] (are) yet to receive a correspondence from the Ministry of Communities about the issue.”

But, days later, The Ministry of Communities confirmed in a statement that approval had been granted for Dr. Ramayya to proceed on 14 days’ vacation leave, effective from July 18, 2016 to July 30, 2016; and resume duties on August 2, 2016.
