FOLLOWING the August 4, 2016 armed robbery by three gunmen of a businessman and his family at Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara, sleuths reported that several persons are in police custody assisting with the probe.Detectives said the matter is active and no one has been pinpointed as yet, but a group of men have been detained and a few persons of interest were being grilled up to press time.

Businessman Heeralall Hardowar was battered by the bandits who accosted him when he returned home from his businessplace at Stabroek Market. He operates a wholesale business selling plastic bags, sanitary cups, plates and food boxes.

A gun was placed to the man’s head and he was taken into his house via the kitchen, where the men relieved him of the day’s sales and he was escorted at gunpoint to the upper flat of his house where his wardrobe was broken into and he was made to hand over all his jewellery to the bandits.

A substantial amount of money was also taken by the robbers who concealed their faces with bandanas and escaped in a waiting gold-coloured Toyota Spacio motorcar.

The same vehicle was observed parked in the street where the Hardowars reside prior to the armed robbery.

The family of five were holidaying in Guyana and were expected to leave the country on August 5.
