‘Bush Doctor’ threw her herbs away

A 38-YEAR-OLD herbalist remanded to prison by City Magistrate Leron Daley on Tuesday after pleading not guilty to a narcotic charge at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Andréa Camilla Vigilance, of Lot 51 Evan Street, Charlestown, was before the court on the charge which alleges that on August 6, at her home, she had 120 grams of cannabis in her possession for the purpose of trafficking.

Vigilance’s lawyer, Mr. Mortimer Codette, in his application for reasonable bail, explained that his client worked as an herbalist and is commonly known as a ‘Bush doctor’ in Guyana.

The lawyer further contended that his client on the day in question was given the bag with the drug unknowing to her by another woman.

Codette further disclosed that Police ranks suddenly appeared at the woman’s resident and she threw the bag out of the window.

However, according to Police Prosecutor Kevin London Vigilance was seen throwing the bag out of the window. The ranks then retrieved the bag with the cannabis inside.

Magistrate Daley ruled in the prosecution’s favor and remanded the ‘bush doctor’ until September 5.
