Three years jail for ex-convict caught with marijuana

AFTER almost two months to his release from the Camp Street Prison, Ivor Greene was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined $72,000 for trafficking in narcotics by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. Greene, 46, of Lot 77 Durban Street, Lodge,Georgetown, pleaded guilty to the charge which read that he had 218 gramms of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on July 26 at Bourda, Georgetown.
Greene was unrepresented and begged the magistrate for leniency, while explaining that since his release from prison, he has experienced difficulties in finding a job, forcing him to sell the drugs.
According to Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones on the day in question ranks from the police narcotics branch acted on information and visited Bourda Market, where they cordoned off the area.
Ranks saw Greene and became suspicious of him after he was sitting on a plastic bag. The bag was searched and they ranks found several zip lock parcels with suspected marijuana inside.
