Linden man allegedly caught with marijuana in hammock

A LINDENER who pleaded not guilty to a trafficking in narcotics charge was on Thursday remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.Trevor Craig, 23, of Lot 80 First Street, Cinema Town Linden appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where it was alleged that on July 18 he had 492 grams of cannabis sativa (marijuana) in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The incident is alleged to have occurred at Sherima Police Outpost, Essequibo. Craig was represented by Attorney Moti Singh, who requested bail.

Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones told the court that on the day in question Craig was among several passengers in a cruiser that was stopped and searched by police. The police asked the occupants to disembark the vehicle with their belongings. Jones stated that a hammock which Craig had in his possession was searched and the marijuana was found concealed inside.

According to the Prosecutor, the accused admitted that he owned the drug and that he was going on a hustle. The Chief Magistrate remanded Craig and transferred his matter to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court for September 1.
