Guyana strikes gold at the 21st Caribbean Darts Tournament

NATIONAL champion Sudesh ‘Kerry’ Fitzgerald and Luis Ramirez-Merlano did Guyana proud as they earned the top spots in the 21st Caribbean Cup which was held in Barbados over the last 10 days.Last night Fitzgerald won the individual single title and later teamed up with Ramirez-Merlano to take the title in the Men’s doubles game. Fitzgerald was also crowned male MVP (most valuable player).
The international event saw the participation of teams from all across the Caribbean, the USA and Canada. In addition to Barbados, Caribbean teams included Bahamas, Belize, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, and twin-island republic Trinidad and Tobago.
The event was reportedly one of the most highly contested tournaments on the Darts calendar for 2016. Guyana fielded a 12-man contingent, which included a male and female team. The male team included Lallchan Rambharose, Nicholas Seetaram, Adrian Damon, Terence Joseph, Marvin Yaw, and Jamwant Bhupan, while the women’s side comprised Jaswantie Hiralall, Victorine Chandro, Melissa Smartt and Mary Correia.
The team was scheduled to return to Guyana yesterday.
