Jamaican discus thrower Jason Morgan to appeal Olympic non-selection before CAS

LAWYERS representing Jamaican discus thrower Jason Morgan have written a letter to the Jamaica Athletic Administrative Association advising them of the intention to appeal before the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) his non-selection to the national team to the Olympic Games in Rio.Morgan, the 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, was excluded from the team despite being only one of two Jamaican throwers to have met the qualifying standard.
Reliable sources have informed Sportsmax.tv that the lawyer – Dr Emir Crowne – intends to file the appeal by Wednesday, July 13 (today0, and have the matter heard by video conference before a sole arbitrator either on July 16 or 17 with a decision to be made by July 18.
On Monday, Dr Warren Blake had said that the JAAA’s selection committee decided not to select Morgan because of his inconsistency even though he had achieved the required standard.
“Jason was fourth and it was the wisdom of the selection committee not to put him in even though he has the qualifying distance because Jason’s history is that he throws the qualifying distance at one meet and he never repeats and he never even comes within the zone,” Dr Blake told Sportsmax.tv on Monday.
Morgan had told media Monday that he was still hopeful he would be selected but expressed anger and disappointment when it was revealed that he was not.
Morgan is the Jamaican national record holder, having set the mark of 68.19m in 2015.
