Guyana beat Leewards by nine wickets in the Women’s Super50 clash

GUYANA whipped Leeward Islands by nine wickets in round four of the Regional Women Super50 Tournament yesterday. The win is Guyana’s first after their first three-round matches were washed out.The game was reduced to 20 overs aside after overnight rain left the Everest outfield in a soggy state.
However, when play eventually started, Guyana won the toss and decided to field first.
The decision paid off, as the visitors were bowled out for just 43 in 15 overs. Plaffiana Millington was the chief destroyer for Guyana, claiming 3-5. Akaze Thompson snatched 2-7 while Tremayne Smartt and Mandy Mangru claimed a wicket apiece.
In reply Guyana reached 46-1 in eight overs. Shemaine Campbelle and Latoya Smith were unbeaten on 17 and 15 respectively. Melaine Henry was the player dismissed for two.
Meanwhile, wet outfields due to the current inclement weather affected the other two round-four games with play abandoned without a ball being bowled.
No play was possible at Enmore where Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago were clashing or at Enterprise where Windward Islands and Barbados were expected to go head-to-head.
The fifth and final round will be played tomorrow, weather permitting with Guyana taking on Jamaica at Everest, Barbados opposing Leewrads at Enterprise and Jamaica and Windwards clashing at Enmore.
The final is set for Sunday at Everest.
