BUDDIES gym has committed to the sport of powerlifting by signing on to the remainder of the 2016 calendar with the Guyana Amateur Power Lifting Federation (GAPLF).The partnership will see the gym hosting upcoming events of the GAPLF.
Under the new arrangement as well athletes who were selected to represent Guyana at the 14th Annual North American Regional Powerlifting Championships /9th Annual Caribbean Powerlifting Championship (NARPC/CPC),will be able to train at the entity.
The NARPC/CPC will be held in St.Croix, US Virgin Islands, from August 14-19.
Meanwhile the GAPLF has already sought to use their new agreement to host a bench press competition on July 31 at the Gym.
In this event, there will be three weight categories, lightweight (up to and including 66kg), middle- weight (over 66kg- 93kg) and heavyweight (over 93kg).
Competitors can compete individually or as a team, consisting of four males and two females with the competition featuring three judges with a head judge initiating the start and rack commands.
Two attempts are allowed per lifter and bouncing the weight from the chest is being allowed, according to Tyron Eusebio, the Public Relations officer of the GAPLF.
Athletes and teams who are interested are asked to pay a fee of $2000 per athlete who are competing individually and $3000 per team.

Subsequent to that event, the body will host its RAW competition slated for September 18 at a venue that’s still to be decided.

This RAW event will see athletes in sub-juniors (14-19 years), juniors age (19-23 years), open class and masters’ division 1 to 4 competing without full gear.
